Hi, I’m Muaz - a recent college graduate who clearly has too much time on his hands. I’ve been looking for a creative outlet for some time now. I have other hobbies - chess, video games, horology - but strangely enough, I never had a creative hobby. I never really thought of myself as someone who creates things. But one of the YouTubers that I’ve followed for a long time, Ali Abdaal, posted a video called “How Writing Online Made Me a Millionaire”. Despite the somewhat clickbaity title, Ali mainly talks about how writing, and self-promotion in general, doesn’t have to be about self-promotion. It can be about showing your work, opening your life up to serendipity, and giving yourself a creative outlet. Those all sound like pretty nice things, don’t they? Even without the million dollars. So here I am and here you are, reading this.
So to be begin…
It’s almost been one year of quarantine lock-down and in the time since, I’ve:
Finished the most stressful year of my life so far because of the Muslim Student Association
Graduated from UC Davis with a major I don’t use and two minors that I hardly remember
Bought a Kindle and ended up reading more books during quarantine than during four years of university
Started a Book-stagram but gave up on it (@LateBloomerLonelyReader)
Organized my productivity system and started investing
Researched and started writing a series of articles detailing the history of the Muslim Student Association in the United States but put it on hold.
Bought a gaming laptop and finally achieved my dream of joining the PC Master Race.
Started working at an amazing company but still trying to find my place in the world
Who knows what’s in store for the next year? You don’t know and neither do I. But as an old friend once told me, let’s find out together.
Hopefully, we have some fun along the way.
If you think some of your friends might like what I write, feel free to share this out!
